Bungie: Threshold

▶ Explore this system live in the app

The Soell system is the setting for the discovery of Installation 04, the first Halo ringworld encountered by humanity.

This visualization maps all nine of the system's planets, centering on the massive violet gas giant Threshold and its primary moon, Basis. The Alpha Halo ring orbits in the lagrange point between the two, a testament to Forerunner engineering that spans the width of the system.

Threshold (Soell VII)
planet, gas-giant · orbits Soell · 1,600,000,000 km · 214,604 km diameter

A massive Jovian world with a liquid hydrogen core. Its purplish-orange tendril-like clouds are composed of white ammonia, amber ammonium hydrosulfide, and phosphorus, whipped by raging storms and winds reaching hundreds of kilometers an hour.

Low-Orbital Suspension Grid
region · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 130,000 km–150,000 km

An extensive band-like network of Forerunner gas mining platforms and refinery stations hanging in Threshold's upper atmosphere.

Forerunner Gas Mine
station · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 140,000 km · 15 km diameter

An expansive automated facility hanging from the suspension grid. Originally designed to mine hydrogen, helium, and methane, it was retrofitted to research the Flood and later occupied by Sesa 'Refumee's heretics.

Deep-Space Anomaly 0198
station, egg · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 250,000 km · 8 km diameter

An unknown Forerunner space station in high orbit over the gas giant, cataloged by the UNSC as Deep-Space Anomaly 0198.

Installation 04 (Alpha Halo)
artifact · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 390,000 km · 10,000 km diameter

A Forerunner ringworld megastructure suspended at the L1 Lagrange point between Threshold and Basis. From its surface, Threshold occupies nearly 1/3 of the sky.

UNSC Pillar of Autumn
spacecraft, egg · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 395,000 km · 1.17 km diameter

The wreckage of the Halcyon-class light cruiser that made a blind slipspace jump to this system, inadvertently leading the Covenant to Installation 04.

Threshold Minor I
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 180,000 km · 450 km diameter

One of eleven minor satellites orbiting Threshold. Positioned just outside the atmospheric suspension grid, it hosts automated Forerunner maintenance facilities.

Threshold Minor II
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 210,000 km · 600 km diameter

A tightly orbiting satellite. Scans indicate hollowed-out subterranean Forerunner architecture beneath its cratered surface.

Threshold Minor III
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 225,000 km · 320 km diameter

Clustered dangerously close to Minor II. Deep-penetrating scans reveal a hollowed-out interior filled with dormant Forerunner maintenance drones.

Threshold Minor IV
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 470,000 km · 510 km diameter

Orbiting just past Installation 04, telemetry indicates this "moon" is completely artificial—a camouflaged Forerunner facility covered in rock.

Threshold Minor V
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 650,000 km · 280 km diameter

A jagged, metallic rock. It emits a faint, repeating Sentinel control signal toward the Halo ring.

Basis
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 800,000 km · 4,200 km diameter

Threshold's largest natural satellite. Its gravitational interaction with the planet was used by the Forerunners to stabilize the Halo's orbit.

Threshold Minor VI
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 860,000 km · 700 km diameter

Threshold Minor IX
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 2,100,000 km · 310 km diameter

A frozen satellite that acts as a stealth-baffled armory, likely meant to supply Sentinels during a Flood outbreak.

Threshold Minor X
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 4,500,000 km · 150 km diameter

A heavily irradiated rock making a massive, lonely orbit. It hides a dense Forerunner power relay core at its center.

Threshold Minor XI
moon · orbits Threshold (Soell VII) · 7,800,000 km · 850 km diameter
